The Science
How BBL Photofacial Works
BBL Heroic uses broadband light — a form of intense pulsed light (IPL) — to target pigment and blood vessels beneath the skin's surface. A cooled, sapphire-tipped handpiece glides over the treatment area while pulses of light are absorbed by pigmented cells and small vessels, breaking them down for your body to clear naturally. The same light energy gently heats the collagen-rich dermis, triggering your skin's own repair response.
Most clients describe the sensation as a quick, warm snap against the skin — thanks to Sciton's CoolComfort technology, topical numbing typically isn't needed. Built-in Intelligent Control software and a Skin Positioning System help your provider deliver consistent, precise energy across the treatment area for more even results in fewer passes.
In the days following treatment, pigmented spots will darken slightly before flaking away — a visible sign the treatment is working, not a side effect to worry about. Full results build over the following weeks as your body clears the treated cells and replaces them with fresh, more even-toned skin.

BBL Photofacial vs Moxi Laser
Is BBL Photofacial or Moxi Laser Right for You?

- Treats face and body — chest, arms, legs
- Often paired with Moxi for combined results

Your BBL Photofacial Treatment Plan
- Arrive with a clean face or treatment area — no makeup, lotion, or self-tanner.
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least two weeks before treatment — active tans or fresh sunburn may require rescheduling.
- Skip retinoids and exfoliating actives for a few days prior to your session.
- Let us know about any recent Accutane use, photosensitizing medications, or a history of cold sores.
- Topical numbing typically isn't needed, but let your provider know if you have sensitive skin.
- We'll cleanse the treatment area and apply a clear gel to help your skin absorb the light energy.
- You'll be given protective eyewear before treatment begins.
- Your provider glides the BBL handpiece across the treatment area in quick pulses — most clients feel a brief warm snap, nothing more.
- Sessions typically run 15 to 30 minutes depending on the size and number of areas treated.
- You'll go home with an aftercare kit and SPF guidance to protect your results.
- Skin may feel warm, like a mild sunburn, for the first 30 to 60 minutes and sometimes up to 48 hours.
- Treated pigment will darken slightly over the next few days before flaking off naturally — this is expected, not a complication.
- Mild redness or swelling can occur and typically resolves within a few hours to a couple of days.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and wear broad-spectrum SPF 50+ daily, especially during the first 72 hours.
- Skincare and makeup can typically resume within 1 to 2 days.
- Don't pick at darkened or flaking spots — let them shed naturally.
- Continue wearing broad-spectrum SPF daily to protect your results and prevent new sun damage.
- Visible improvement in tone and pigment typically appears within 2 to 4 weeks.
- Most clients complete a series of 3 sessions spaced about 3 weeks apart for full correction.
- Once you've reached your goals, periodic maintenance sessions help keep results looking fresh.
- Avoid new sun damage between sessions — tanning will work against your results.
